Caregiving Around the Clock
November 03, 2017
November is National Family Caregivers Month, and this year’s
theme is Caregiving Around the Clock.
Most people don’t realize how much work goes into caregiving. A National report
last year found that Americans caring for aging or disabled family members
spend enough time administering to them to equal two full-time jobs. In many
cases, that’s in addition to holding down a regular job.
National Family Caregivers Month highlights the many
unnoticed responsibilities taken on by family caregivers at all hours of the
no wonder family caregivers report having higher stress levels, depression,
isolation and financial losses than their non-caregiving counterparts. The
Wilder Foundation offers advice and support to caregivers through its Caregiver Resource Center. Minnesota is a
leader on this front with the implementation of the Senior LinkAge Line® at
1-800-333-2433, which helps channel
seniors and their caregivers to resources in the community. The Senior LinkAge
Line® is a service of the Minnesota Board on Aging and six Area
Agencies on Aging.
